Performing according to its function looks at is the job getting done. For salespeople, this would be doing the activities that generate the required results.

Growth is taking a step back from working in your role to work on your role. It is looking at and implementing ways to improve and grow to the next level.

Management does a good job of making sure people are achieving their function. For sales managers, this would be sales meetings with forecast reviews to discuss the opportunities in the pipeline.

Coaching is an objective voice, that is on the same team, but is not in the game. This outside perspective has the goal of helping the player improve and be more effective.

Studies have shown that coaching is effective in helping salespeople improve performance, but most managers do a poor job with coaching.
